ALL DONE!!!
We were off by two days. On the 19th (last night) Pinky completed itself! The last part of the scab fell off and the omphalocele is now completely skin. As you can see the skin is still very fragile looking and there is healing left to do, but it's all skin now! It's so amazing to think that just 6-7 months ago this was all open and exposed. It's amazing what the human body can do.

Karsie,
ReplyDeleteNana got a new toy for you. I think you might have a smile for him instead of the "lip" you had for Murphy.
Awesome! I remember when Blair's completed and her belly looked similar to Karsie's belly! What's the next step? Have they talked surgery or anything?

Tiffany - We go in on March 30 and some time in April to see both plastic surgery and the pediatric surgeon. We'll know about the surgery more around that time (we think). Right now we just keep cooking her longer and help her grow until a plan happens.
ReplyDeleteVery cool... please keep us updated on that! I will be anxious to see what they will say on how they will "fix" pinky! I'm assuming they will talk tissue expanders with you. That was our original plan and why we took Blair to have surgery. She ended up coming out of surgery with a closure and NO expanders! The Dr. told me it was because of my compression wrapping that they were able to get all of her "stuff" back in with the help of some alloderm. She will have another surgery eventually, but I'm SO pleased with the results!

Tiffany - Yes. The plan is the expanders at this point. We already have a plastic surgeon, but if we can get around it we'd like to not have the expanders. So far her omphalocele is forming nicely to her abdominal cavity, so we'll see.
